We are in the process of enhancing our wireless coverage in one of our busiest and classroom buildings on our campus.  We have three large auditoriums (500 - 750 seats) and plan on mounting the APs on the floor under the seats.  We are looking at enclosures to put the APs in to protect them from spills, kicks, stomps, theft, whatever.  We will be starting with AP135s but will likely upgrade to APs that support 802.11ac phase2 when they are available.  As a guess, I am trying to gauge the size against an AP225.

Has anyone out there put AP-225s in enclosures or have recommendations?  We have an 8 x 8 box the 225 just fits into, but may need a bigger box; the next biggest one we have found is 12 x 12 which would definitely be a tripping hazard so are hoping to stay no larger than 10 x 10.

    Thanks

    Amel

Oberon makes a box that comes with aluminum mounting "wings" that can be used to bolt directly to the floor.

**BE SURE TO ORDER THE 1024-PS NOT THE 1020-PS **     The 1024-PS comes with a taller cover that is necessary to accomodate the AP+mount kit+backplate.   The 1020-PS is not deep enough.

It fits the AP225 almost exactly.  We have done thermal analysis on it and in an indoor temperature controlled environment you can run with no issue.

I recommend using the AP-220-MNT-W1 mount kit to attach the AP to the back plate.  Leaves lots of space for cable routing inside the box.

Here is a pic with an AP-224.

And here is a pic showing the -W1 mount on the back plate.   (not screwed in yet).

    **CORRECTION**

The correct part number for the Oberon enclosure that is compatible with AP-225 and AP-135 is:

    1020-FN.

I incorrectly stated it was the 1024-PS.  That part does not exist.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

Our installation is going to be indoors and the boxes will be bolted directly to a concrete floor and a metal walker duct, so I am also wondering if there is concern with heat.  We can fabricate a mounting bracket and cut ventillation holes if necessary.

Our primary concern is not cost, but the Oberon box is about 5 times the price of what our contractor is recommending and with 70 of these it can add up.

I have done thermal loading analysis of the Oberon 1020-FN with an AP225 installed.   In a normal temperature controller environment you will have no difficulty.

We have used Allied Moulded Products for a project in the dorms.  Not sure what the Oberon might run you, but you might want to try Allied Moulded.  They are very accommodiating to work with.
