Today I was doing post survey for on customer & noticed that while a client is roaming between APs there is one ping drops. Client was pinging google.com.

    So my question is:

Is this a expected behaviour ?

Or I need to work on this to fix .

It is very typical to see one or two ping drops during a roam.  Clients can scan other channels while roaming and pings are not retried, so it is typical.

In network verification testing this behavior was saw at every site.

    Thanks,

May I know the reason behind this.

It's because of the re-association process that go on "behind the scenes".

    - "Clients can scan other channels while roaming and pings are not retried, so it is typical.".  While a client is scanning other channels, it is not processing traffic on the data channel.

    - There also could be contention:  Wireless is a shared mechanism and sometimes traffic does not go through the first time.  Combine that with scanning when changing access points, and there could be a drop or two.

    - Pings are never retried, so if it is missed, there is nothing further up in the application layer to retry a ping that is missed; it is just missed
