    Hi everyone,

I am trying to set up a network between a 3200 Controller and an IAP 105. It has to be an IAP, because it has a reset button. From what I have read so far, I have to convert this IAP into a campus access point to use it with a controller.
But for some reason I am not able to connect to the IAP UI using a browser and I can only access the cli in certain circumstances. Under these circumstances I am able to log in, but not able to change the settings with "authentication failed" as the given error (when trying to use the enable command).
    This is the given configuration:
The router is broadcasting a WLAN and is plugged into some kind of server. The controller is also plugged into that server and is connected to a working AP 175 mesh portal. I have no access to the server and I am not sure what exactly it is doing.
The goal is to deploy the IAP 105 as a mesh point that is not hardwired to the controller.
This is what I have tried so far:
    1) Connecting via PoE switch with no hardwired router or controller access:
        booting after factory_reset:
            Checking image @ 0xbf100000
            Invalid image format version: 0xffffffff
            Checking image @ 0xbf800000
            Invalid image format version: 0xffffffff
            eth0 up: 1 Gb/s full duplex
            DHCP broadcast 1
            DHCP broadcast 2
The DHCP broadcast is then repeated for ever. Pinging it is not possible.

After having it hooked up and booted with the controller:
it seems to load alright but then suddenly stops. Last console entries:
            AG7100: cfg_4: 0xfff
            AG7100: cfg_5: 0xfffef
            AG7100: done cfg2 0x7215 ifctl 0x0 miictrl 0x22
            Writing 4

After some time I receive these console outputs:
            DHCP timed out.
            killall: nanny: no process killed
            killall: sapd: no process killed
            T
            Sending SIGKILL to all processes.
Please stand by while rebooting the system.
Pinging it seems possible, but all packages are beeing lost.

In both cases it is shown as down in controller UI.

    2) Connecting via PoE switch and LAN to laptop
exactly the same results as in 1)

    3) Connecting via PoE switch directly to the router (hardwired)
    a) The Controller is on

The IAP boots fine, connects to the controller and seems to work as intended, except for the hardwired part.

I have access to the cli, but when I use the enable command I am asked for the password, which I enter.
But then it only shows "Authentification failed" and until now I have found no information regarding this Error.

Then it asks me for the password again with the same outcome.
        I can ping the AP.
The controller UI lists the AP as up.

    b) The Controller is off
it tries to boot but stops with this console output
            192.168.178.42 255.255.255.0 192.168.178.1
Running ADP...cat: /tmp/master: No such file or directory
            Done. Master is
            killall: nanny: no process killed
            killall: sapd: no process killed
            The sy
            Sending SIGKILL to all processes.
Please stand by while rebooting the system.
            Restarting system.

and then it restarts. Unless I power it down it stays in this loop.
        I can ping it.

    4) Connecting via the Server to the controller
The AP boots alright and works almost as intended, except for the hardwired part.
I can ping it, but I am still unable to access it.
In the controller UI it shows the AP as up.

In all constellations I was able to access apboot via console cable.
The http://instant.arubanetworks.com/ UI access never works. It always says: website not found.
Trying to access the IAP via its IP address always returns a connection failed error.

I hope I was able to provide all needed information.
Thank you very much in advance.

    Hi Jan,

basically you need to connect the AP to a network with working DHCP server. The AP will boot up and broadcast the open SSID "instant" which makes the webinterface accessible. To use it with your controller you need to log in using the url https://instant.arubanetworks.com:4343/ (admin/admin) and convert it from Instant AP to Campus AP.

After a reboot the AP will search for a controller via adp, dns or dhcp option and you can do further configuration.

    Cheers

    Thank you for the reply.

It helped me to figure out, that I need the controller to be offline when attaching the IAP to the router. Judging from the console output the router provides the needed IP address, but then something goes wrong:

    Checking image @ 0xbf100000
    Invalid image format version: 0xffffffff
    Checking image @ 0xbf800000
    Invalid image format version: 0xffffffff
    eth0 up: 1 Gb/s full duplex
    DHCP broadcast 1
    *** Unhandled DHCP Option in OFFER/ACK: 28
    *** Unhandled DHCP Option in OFFER/ACK: 28
    DHCP IP address: 192.168.178.42
    DHCP subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    DHCP def gateway: 192.168.178.1
    DHCP DNS server: 192.168.178.1
    DHCP DNS domain: fritz.box
    ADP multicast 1
    ADP broadcast 1
    ADP multicast 2
    ADP broadcast 2
    ADP multicast 3

    Retry count exceeded
    DNS request 1 for aruba-master.fritz.box to 192.168.178.1
    T T T T
    Retry count exceeded; starting again
    eth0 up: 1 Gb/s full duplex
    checksum bad
    checksum bad
    checksum bad

From that point on it only repeats that "checksum bad" message.

I looked for a solution to this error, but couldn't find any. Can you give me any advise on how to solve this problem?

    Thank you very much
    Jan

    Checking image @ 0xbf100000
    Invalid image format version: 0xffffffff
    Checking image @ 0xbf800000
    Invalid image format version: 0xffffffff

The AP seems to have an invalid Image installed. Did you try to stop the AP from booting an choosing the other partition?

    At this point:

Hit <Enter> to stop autoboot: 0
    Booting OS partition 1
    Checking image @ 0x2000000
    Copying image from 0x44000000

Image is signed; verifying checksum... passed

Are you sure this one is still an IAP? After it got the IP address it is searching via ADP for a controller...

When the retry count exceeds it's trying via DNS, in your case "aruba-master.fritz.box"

It seems like your fritz box is accepting and resolving the aruba-master DNS address and the AP is attempting to connect to it.  Unfortunately it thinks that is the controller.  Is the controller on the same layer 2 network as the AP?  If yes, it would find the controller via multicast instead and ignore the DNS resolution.
