    This post outlines high level information about recent AOS firmware releases.  Hopefully it will aid you in determining what version you should be running and help delineate the differences between versions.

     

    Info about new versions of AOS will be added to this post as they are released.  Subscribe to this post to be alerted when new versions of code are released.

     

    Please contact Aruba Support before upgrading if you have any questions.  A valid support account is needed to access the firmware files and release notes.  The release notes are the definitive source of information about a release and should always be read before upgrading.

               

     

    AOS 3.4.5.1 Released 1/24/2012

    • Comments:
      • Patch release that fixes 44 known issues/defects on the 3.4.5 code train and adds some VLAN pool assignment enhancements.

    AOS 6.1.3.0 Released 2/2/2012

    • Comments:
      • Maintenance release that branches from the 6.1.2 code train and fixes 150+ known issues/defects and adds a few minor features.
      • Enhancements:
        • AP-93H and AP-104 support
        • IPv6 Router Advertisement support
        • Hybrid spectrum support on the AP-105
        • Support for heartbeats in L2 GRE tunnels
        • SCCP v17 support
        • VLAN Pool assignment updates
        • Enhanced VDI support
        • Verizon LTE UML290 4G modem support

    AOS 6.1.3.2 Released 5/29/2012

    Comments

    • Large patch release with over 125 bugs fixed.  There were 3 enhancements to existing features including more granularity on the non-wifi interference immunity setting, cell size reduction and ARP filtering enhancements.
    • Release Notes: The release note format was updated based on feedback from AirHeads.  There is a new Issues Under Investigation section which includes issues that have been reported by customers and have not been reproduced or confirmed.  We have no reason to believe they are affecting other customers.   The bug descriptions were also updated heavily.  6.1.3.2 Release Notes

    • Patch release that fixes ~50 defects.  There are also some wireless performance enhancements that result from minor tweaks in radio behavior.  The release note format has also undergone some revision to make them easier to use.  The upgrade chapter has been streamlined and simplified.

    AOS 6.2.0.0 Released 12/5/12

    • Early deployment minor release that add support for the 72x0 series of controllers.  There are a few new features including controller capacity alerts, LLDP support for the APs and 3g/4g backhaul link monitoring.  It also includes some enhancements to spectrum analysis, Dashboard pages and setup wizard.  DFS support has been extended to the AP-92,AP-93,AP-93h,AP-105, AP-134 and AP-135.  There are also over 75 bug fixes included in the release.

    • Caveats: Please reveiw the release notes before attempting to upgrade a 3200 or 651 controller.

    • Patch release for 6.2.0.x early dpeloyment that fixes 2 bugs.  All customers running 6.2.0.x are strongly encouraged to upgrade to 6.2.0.2.

    •  Patch release for AOS 6.2.1.  This patch release is the first General Availability (GA) release for AOS 6.2.  There are no new features in this release but it does include regulatory updates.  This release includes ~30 fixes to defects.

    AOS 6.3.0.0 Released 6/17/2013

    •  Early deployment release for AOS 6 that includes a large number of features.  Software support for 802.11ac is added in this release.  The AP 155, 155P, 224 and 225 are supported.  This release includes other large features such as Client match, AirGroup and Centralized licensing.  The release also includes ~75 bug fixes.  It is strongly recommended that customers read the release notes before upgrading to AOS 6.3.0.0

    • Patch release that includes regulatory updates and no new features.  All performance enhancements from the 6.3.1.2-acperf technology release have been included in this version.  This release fixes ~65 issues.

    AOS 6.4.0.0 released 2/15/2014 as an Early Deployment (ED) release

    • AOS 6.4.0.0 is a new Minor release that  includes a number of new features and hardware support.  The AP-274, AP-275, AP-103 and AP-102 are supported in this release.  AppRF received major enhancements including deep packet inspection support on the 72x0 series controllers.  Airgroup was enhanced to support uPnP and DLNA support.  AP Fast Failover was improved to include client authentication state synchronization across the primary and backup controller, shortening fall over times.  Please read the release notes for a full list of new features an enhancements
    • Important Note 1: Phone Home is on by default.  Information about disableing it can be found in the release notes. 
    • Important Note 2: Legacy a/b/g only APs are not supported in AOS 6.4.  Please read the release notes for full information on supported APs.

    AOS 6.4.0.2 released 3/21/2014 as an Early Deployment (ED) release.

    • APS 6.4.0.2 is a patch release for AOS 6.4.  This release includes a security security enhancement and is recommended for anyone on the 6.4 branch.  The only other new feature is an update to the regulatory support.  This release fixes ~30 issues.

    AOS 6.3.1.4 released 3/21/2014 as a GA release.

    •  AOS 6.3.1.4 is a patch release to 6.3.1.  No new features were added to this release.  This release includes a security enhancement for a potentitial cross site scripting vulnerability.  There is a default behavior change to the eapol-rate-opt parameter in the WLAN SSID profile.  It is enabled by default now.  And there are regulatory updates. This release includes fixes to ~40 issues.
