Try switching to AES on your WPA.

What VLAN does a user end up on in the residences?  Is it different from everywhere else?
Students are placed in1 of 6 VLANs if AP is terminated on the Local; 1 of 3 VLANs if AP if terminated on Master.

Is it possible that one of those VLANs does not exist on the local controller, so when a user ends up in that VLAN, he gets nowhere?

Type "show vlan status" on that local controller to make sure.

Re: Student Residences and Inability to Connect to College-installed APs

Please keep in mind that WPA-TKIP does not support 802.11n rates. I just tested this on an AP-105 sitting right next to my MacBook Pro. After I switched it over to AES, the MacBook Pro then connected at 802.11n rates. Hence my recommendation for switching over to AES.

Re: Student Residences and Inability to Connect to College-installed APs

All 9 student  VLANs are "Enabled" as reported in the Adminstate and are "Up" as reported in the Operstate listing in both the Master and Local controllers.

We do use VLAN-pooling, as recommended by Alcatel support reps and technicians.

I will look into changing the WPA-TKIP to WPA-AES.

Have the student connect the Mac to a hardwired port and update the driver for the NIC.

We had this problem last year.
