Wireless Access

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this error would be greatly appreciated?

 

/etc/init.d/rcS: 298: cannot create /flash/webcert/cnname: Directory nonexistent

 

I have even tried to downgrade the version and then upgrade again to 6.2

 

I am unable to access the controller (651 controller) from the browser. I was upgrading partition 0 and when the controller rebooted i started receiving the error. I also receive the error even when i boot to partition 1 now

 

I was upgrading from 6.1 to 6.2

 

I am also unable to restore flash from my backup as it states "Error untar'ing file.". I have tried copying it back to flash via scp/tftp

Are you able to access the controller via the console port?

Yes, i am able to access the controller via the console..

 

I was hoping this would be an easy fix like just run his command  8)

 

I purchased this controller/RAP5's and AP125 off of eBay since my school district would not purchase me an extra equipment for learning purposes since they spent $3 mil on the system. They advised me to wait until after the system is in place and they would see about extra equipment.

 

I do not have a warranty or a support contract for the controller.. 

OK then.

 

Please send the output from the console port when the controller is booting up so we can see what is happening.

Update here is info from the messages log (not sure if it helps):

UPDATE: i did a backup flash and then compared it to a known good backup and it does not contain the folder "webcert" and inside this folder are 3 files named cnname, cert.pem and ca.cert.bundle.pem

 

the error state "cannot create /flash/webcert/cnname: Directory nonexistent" this makes sense as the directory "webcert" is not there

 

so is there a way to create the folder manually as i am still unable to do a restore flash?

 

UPDATE #2: I have tried to take the "webcert" folder from the known good backup and then place it in the backup that was missing it and then tar.gz'd it but i am still unable to restore the file. Not sre if there is a check sum that may be causing the error or if it is something else. The size of the new flashbackup.tar.gz ir 28 KB, even with the "webcert" folder added. So i don't think it is an out of space issue...

In the flashbackup.tar file, "webcert" needs to be a folder, and not a file.  That is why you are getting the error message.

 

Find the webcert file in the flashbackup.tar and delete it.  Load the new flashbackup.tar onto the controller and see if that works.

I ran the command backup flash.

i then copied it to my desktop deleted the file webcert

i then re-tar'd and gz'd the file

i then copied back to the controller

i then ran restore flash it stated it was successful and i then reloaded

i still get the error

It will only work if Webcert can be seen as a file and not a folder.

I do not know what can be done beyond that. You might have to start from scratch if you cannot open a support case.

UPDATE: i am trying this now - create a folder called webcert in the backup and then restore it?

No. If you see it as a file and delete it, it should work. If you see it as a folder, it would not work.

So i went into my known good backup and i see it as the webcert folder with 3 files in it

 

the latest backup taken from where i cant get into the webui had webcert as a file so i deleted it, reported as successful and so i reloaded but still get the error

 

I guess i will just have to learn everything from the command line (lol) as i dont have a support contract for this since i purchased it off of ebay for learning

You will probably have to start from scratch. What worked before is not working with you.

What happens when you do a write erase?

I have ran the erase all before trying to restore flash and also after

 

I just tried a restore with creating the folder webcert and it stated successful but still got the error after a reboot

 

I then tried a restore with creating the folder webcert and placed the 3 files from my good backup in the folder but this time i received the error unable to untar

 

dam what a waste of money, i should have waited to see if the district would have purchased me one next year

restore flash (with successful message) = same error   /etc/init.d/rcS: 614: cannot create /flash/webcert/cnname: Directory nonexistent

everytime i boot = same error    /etc/init.d/rcS: 614: cannot create /flash/webcert/cnname: Directory nonexistent

 

 

Try "format 0" at the cpboot> prompt

Sorry for the late reply I had an emergency at work..

 

vfabian suggested in an earlier port for me to try format 0:2 at the cpboot>

 

Not sure if i am not doing something correctly but when i type in the following i get:

 

                    cpboot> format 0:2

                    Unknown command 'format' - try 'help'

 

even if i type in "format" i get Unknown command 'format' - try 'help'

That is the article i followed when i first had the problem and have tried it several times since then but i still have the error

 

now the one thing i havent tried is: (i guess this is worth a try)

delete the webcert file in the flashbackup.tar

retaring it

restore flash

then reboot

interupt the boot to get to the cpboot

then go straight into following the article

 

the article states using tftp, I have tried using tftp, ftp, and scp

Please look at the article I just posted.

 

Did you set the variables?  Did you set up a TFTP server?

 

Did you follow the instructions?

 

Where did you have problems?

 

I have reviewed the article and used it server times. It works for me everytime

 

I have no issues/problems with anything in the article

 

It is when i boot (last step in the article) after doing the reimage i receive the following error. This is the only error i receive and i am unable to access the controller via the WEBUI

 

/etc/init.d/rcS: 614: cannot create /flash/webcert/cnname: Directory nonexistent

 

 

Please look at the boot.jpg on the 9th post you will see the error when i boot the controller

Could you try "nand erase" command under cpboot>

 

cpboot>nand erase

I will try the recommended fix by VFabian later this evening as i am in wireless meetings all day.

 

VFabian do you think there may be any issues since i am unable to restore the last flash backup now or do you believe it should work once the partition is formated? FYI - i know the backup is good as i have restored flash with it before..

It is possible that when you did the restore there wasn't enough space.
