I see this error message with (all of?)  our VIA install base:

    "Retrieving configuration from server.... failed"

Anybody got an idea how to start figuring this error out?

From what I understand VIA configuration is downloaded through tcp 443 which is also where the client is/can be downloaded.

For us the client download works fine but apparently not so for the configuration.

I'm also not entirely sure whay configuration it talks about. When first installing and connecting it downloads its config to connect right? All this seems to go fine.

    - Did it ever work?

    - What changed recently?

VIA has always worked just fine, even now it works fine.

Said error however, I think we've always had but I can't be sure.

Don't think anything has changed regarding the VIA config on the controller.

The role of the VIA user must contain a VIA connection profile, otherwise they will see that error.

Voila, that how easy a fix can be.

I'm pushing the exact same role to users as I was pushing them on the local WLAN. No VIA connection profile in that role.

I'd like to be a bit lazy and keep using the same role for my VIA clients as my local WLAN users.

So can I safely presume that adding the VIA connection profile to a role that has nothing to do with VIA (like my role for the local WLAN) has no negative affect for these local WLAN users?

    You are correct.

    Laziness does have its benefits..

    Resurrecting this thread...

iOS devices, using the proper connection profile, are showing the "VPN configuration update failed" error message after successfully connecting. I have confirmed that the proper User Role is assigned and indeed contains the VIA Connection Profile.

What else could I look at here?

Windows and Android clients, connecting with the same user, do not exhibit this behavior (or at least dont display it).
