    Hi guys,

I am new in controllers and a little confused about the VLAN configuration between an AP, a controller and across all the network. Here I draw two cases:

    Dibujo1.jpg

If I want to service clients in both WLANs Employee and Guest. How do every port need to be configured? Let's take VLAN 1 as the native VLAN. For example, I think is

    Case A:

    Eth0: Access in VLAN1

    Eth1: Access in VLAN1

    Gig0/0: Access in VLAN1

    Gig0/1: Trunk with allowed VLANs2-3

    Case B:

    Eth0: Access in VLAN1

    Eth1: Access in VLAN1

    Gig0/0: Access in VLAN1

    Gig0/1: Trunk with allowed VLANs1-3

    Is this correct?

    Regards,

    Julián

APs do not need trunks.  They need access ports.  They tunnel all of their traffic back to the controller.  Where the controller connects to the layer 3 switch is where the user trunks need to be configured.

    Hi Colin,

I understand. But the access ports in what VLAN? For example, what VLAN in the access port in the cases I illustrated?

It does not matter.  The access points just need to be able to reach the controller.

Then the VLAN doesn't matter, simply the VLAN I choose need to "touch" the AP and the controller, am I right?

The ip address of the AP can be on a different VLAN than the controller.  The ip address just needs to be able to send traffic to the ip address (route) to the controller.
