    I have 4 IAP205 running code 6.4.2.3-4.1.2.1_49445 with IP addresses: 192.168.0.10, 11, 12, 13, 14.

I am planning to configure AP1 as preferred master for VC which will use IP 192.168.0.10 as well. However when I got 4 APs powered up and login to 192.168.0.10 UI, I lost AP1...as soon as I changed VC IP to something else, AP1 shows up...

So does this mean physcial IAP 205 can not use the same IP as VC? But I do pretty much same setup with IAP215s environment with code 6.4.2.6-4.1.1.6_50009 and all are working as expected. Maybe there is a software bug in 6.4.2.3 train?

    Please advise.

Anytime I've come across a cluster where an ap had the same ip as the VC there has always been problems.

You may have just got lucky the other time.

It cannot be the same address, no. The purpose is to have a ip address, not occupied by a specific device, that can be a proxy for the active virtual controller.

That's actually make sense however how can I explain why my IAP215 VC cluster works with same IP for IAP and VC?

Just because it works now, does not mean it will not break for a random reason later.
