I have a hospital customer that using the Vocera Collaboration Suite on iPhones.
There is a command that is given to Genie that is "Broadcast", and this is
supposed to send to a group of iPhones and/or Badges. We can send
broadcast from the iPhones to other iPhones, but not to the badges. The
badges get the tone, but not the voice. Same issue from Badge to iPhones.
Broadcast from Badge to Badges and iPhone to iPhones works. Has anyone
else run into this, and how was it solved.

Do you have enabled drop broadcast multicast in the VAP ?

When I turn on Drop Broadcast and Unknown Multicast, none of the Vocera Broadcast Groups work.  When I turn it back off, then the iPhone to iPhones Vocera broadcast group works, and the badge to badges Vocera broadcast group works.

So it was turned on ? because it should be turned off

Do you guys have one SSID for the Vocera badges or it shared with other devices ?

It was off.  I enabled it and nothing worked.  I turned it back off and badges can get to badges and iphones can get to iphones, but badges and iphones cant get to each other.

There is a seperate Vocera SSID.

    It should be off .

Have you configured everything based on Vocera / Aruba best practices :

Are the iPhone's attached to the same SSID that Vocera are associated to ?

Do the iPhone get a different role than the vocera ?

Same SSID and same role for badges and iphones.

    Hi Folks,

Enclosed is the solution that was provided to the end customer and some background information.

    1)   Both the Vocera badges and iPhones are on the same WLAN.

    2)   For every multicast conversation, the server will assign a multicast IP address.

    3)   The  VCG server will listen for the multicast conversation and unicast the voice to the iPhone.

    4)   We need to make sure that there is multicast routing between the User VLAN and the VCG server.

Multicast Config Update on the controller:

    1)   IGMP snooping (IP required on VLAN)

    2)   DMO to convert the multicast to unicast

    3)   Broadcast filter ARP and Broadcast filter ALL.

There should not be a need enable broadcast/multicast, if we convert all multicast to unicast.

    Thanks,
