    Hi:

    I have 3 Aruba Instant ap 207, powered by 3 * 12V/3A plugs.

My laptop is Macbook Pro 2018.

My fiber link is 500Mbps, Max download speed can be 500Mbps(50MB/s).

    When I connect to my switcher by wire, I can get full download speed;

    when i connect netgear R7000 by wireless (5g / chanel 161 and 149 / 80Mhz/ associated speed with MBP is 866Mbps), i can get full download speed too(500Mbps / 50MB/s ).

    But

When I connect to Aruba iap by wireless, (5G / chanel 149E / 80 Mhz / associate speed with MBP 866Mbps), i can only get a max download speed around 200Mbps( 20MB/s).

Is it the max speed limit on Aruba iap207?

If not, what's the max download speed iap 207 can get? how can i improve this?

Following. Same issue (stuck around 200Mbps) but with a few different variables (IAP-305, PoE).

    Hi,

    • The Netgear R7000 have 802.11AC with 3x3:3 radio chains and streams on both radios.
    • The Aruba IAP-207 have 802.11AC with 2x2:2 radio chains and streams on both radios.
    • A Macbook Pro 2018 have a Wireless chipset that support 3 streams.

So the hardware specs of the netgear and the iap-207 are not the same.

Saying that i see you use 80Mhz width channels, wider channels have more throughput but are more sensitive to interference, a lot of max. throughput depends on interference in the air. Only use 80Mhz channel when your spectrum is 100% clean.

Your macbook show it use MCS Index 9 modulation mode and rates in the below list. Please note the data rates are negotiation rates, the max. throughput is much lower and depends on many factors, interference, etc. Say that the actual max. throughput is roughly 50% of this rates in many cases.

It also depends a lot on signal strength and Signal-to-noise ratio that are not the same in both of your test reports on your macbook pro.

    • IAP-207 test show -59 RSSI (ok signal)(see also MCS index table)
    • Netgear test show -32 RSSI (much stronger signal)

    Thanks for your reply.

What's the supported max download speed on iap 207 ?

Is max 200Mbps is the full ability of iap 207 ?

I'm consider to update iap 207 to iap 315, but wonder if there will be a change.

I've test again on iap 207 with RSSI -26 dBm. But nothing changed.

    The IAP-207 is a 802.11AC wave 1 access point with 2x2:2 antenna.

The IAP-305 is a 802.11AC wave 2 access point with 2x2:2 on 2.4Ghz and 3x3:3 antenna on 5Ghz (equal to your macbook pro).

The IAP-315 is a 802.11AC wave 2 access point with 2x2:2 on 2.4Ghz and 4x4:4 antenna on 5Ghz (your macbook dont have provit from the 4th antenna)

When you looking to buy a new AP-300 series your can better look for an AP-500 series with 802.11ax wifi-6. If you look for a second hand the AP-300 is more available and some cheaper choice.

I did a quick test for you on a IAP-305 that i put on 5Ghz@80Mhz. I connect a iPerf sensor (WLANpi) directly to the uplink interface of the AP so there is no delay from some other hops in the network.

My iPhone 8 with 802.11AC wave2 2x2:2 get speeds to max. 600Mbit when iam close to the ap with line of sight. 400Mbit @ 10 meter behind a cinder block wall (when the AP is set to 15mW EIRP transmit power).

    image2.png

Please note that the max. speed are very depend on air quality, interference sources, neighbors, channel utilization, density of wireless devices, drivers, and so on. Dont stare blindly at the maximum throughput but go for reliability. Whether your applications really need 500Mbit throughput you can do better wire them in the first place...

    Thanks so much.

Seems 305 could not get a 1000Mbps internal speed.

    I'd prefer 315, 325 or 335. For i have a nas, so i'd like to get a 1000Mbps full in internal net.

It not working like that... 1Gbit wireless is really hard to get with any type of access points and very depend on air quality and client capabilities. If you applications really need 1Gbit...Cable it!.

Your Mac Book Pro 2018 have an 802.11AC chipset with 3x3:3 antenna and have support to max. 80Mhz VHT. Look at the table i send you in the first topic your macbook can do max. modulation mode of 256QAM that give you a data rate of max. 1300Mbit by 3x3:3 at 80Mhz by a RSSI of -51dBm.

This 1300Mbit data rate is the modulation rate, not the real data throughput! The real throughput should be around 60% aprox max. in a very clean air, so you macbook hardware can do maximum around 780Mbit if your are lucky. If your air is not clean enough and or moving some feet away rates are quickly much lower.

Whatever IAP model your buy an IAP-305 meet the specs of your macbook capabilities and can do 3 spatial stream at VHT 80Mhz. Other models maybe have 4x4:4 antenna but your macbook cant use it. IAP-325/IAP-335 make sense when you have very high density clients like a convergence room but pretty useless for a home environment or default office use with less clients. You can pay a load of money without getting the effort on this.

If you like to now more about wireless, i would recommend you to buy the CWNA trainings guide.

    IAP-305 - 2x2:2@2.4Ghz 3x3:3@5Ghz 3SS/VHT80

    IAP-315 - 2x2:2@2.4Ghz 4x4:4@5Ghz 4SS/VHT80 or 2SS/VHT160

    IAP-325 - 4x4:4@2.4Ghz 4x4:4@5Ghz 4SS/VHT80

    IAP-335 - 4x4:4@2.4Ghz 4x4:4@5Ghz 4SS/VHT80 or 2SS/VHT160

Simply connect your existing wire line broadband connection to this modem to provide an automatic 4G

    Hi,

i have the same problem. As in this thread. I have two Aruba IAP-207 RW (sw 8.6.0.9).  Maximum speed download/upload is approx 200Mbps. I have only one question. This is the maximum speed of this device in 801.11ac?  I have a client 801.11n (notebook with intel centrino advanced-n 6205)  and the speed is the same.

    So 801.11n client + IAP207=200Mbps up/down, 801.11ac client + IAP207=200Mbps up/down.

801.11ac client is notebook with Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260

200Mbps up/down is good value for an 801.11n client, but for client 801.11ac it's a bad value.

I tried the same clients on the access point Edimax CAP1200 (similar wifi parametersand there were different results.

    801.11n client + CAP1200=200Mbps up/down, 801.11ac client + CAP1200=450Mbps up/down.

Can IAP207 handle more than 200Mbps? Or will it go straight to the trash?

    thanks

Thanks for "help". Aruba will go to the trash. I'll try another company that doesn't deceive customers ...
