Do you have any idea, if I leave ‘Partition’ on ‘Auto’ than the new software it will be installed on the non-default boot partition of the 2 controllers ? Because for example on ABC cluster on one controller default boot is partition 0 and on the second controller default boot is partition 1 ?

Auto will install the software on the alternate boot partition, so the one which isn't **Default boot**.

    thank you Craig!

just to explain a lit bit...our current deployment is AOS 8.5.0.4. we want to upgrade only cluster's over our network due to some issues on 8.5.0.4 cluster (campus Access Points could get in a non-functional state). do I need to upgrade also our MM ? ..and then the cluster's and leave the non-clustering controllers on the existing version 8.5.0.4 ?

It is always good practice to keep the MMs at the highest version/revision in the network. Then it is perfectly fine to have the clustered MDs at the same version/revision as the MM and the other MD at a lower version/revision. Aruba supports MDs two versions below the MM.
