    Hi,

I'm just wondering if someone can explain in words what the "ip routing" command actually does when enabled on a vlan interface.

I don't know when it is needed or not needed.  The only time I've ever done anything with this command is to disable on the vlan for a guest network to get a cisco vpn client to work.

Appreciate a more succinct explanation than what's given in the CLI guide.

    Thanks

That's to enable Inter-Vlan Routing which will allow you route traffic between vlans

I assume that means the vlan interface needs an ip address then?
