I have setup a guest network with guest entering an email address on the controllers internal captive portal page before being allowed onto the internet. If I include the command "logging XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX" I can see the line of output with the guests email address however I would like to limit the traffic sent to the syslog server as much as possible - how can I do this?

At the bottom of your show run output, there are logging options.  Please post them.  You can prune them or add classifications like

    (config) #logging 10.10.10.10 severity ?
    alerts Immediate action needed
    critical Critical Condition
    debugging Debug Messages
    emergencies System is unusable
errors Error Conditions in the system
    informational Informational Messages
    notifications Normal but significant condition
    warnings Warning condition

If you remove "logging level informational user subcat all", then your messages should reduce

Thats not quite what I meant, with the "logging xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" command I get everything (or so it seems) I'm looking for a command that will display the email address of the guest client logging on and as little as possible else.

Ah!  Does the information need to be in syslog format?  Do you own Airwave?

As it happens they do have an Airwave, but I was told by our internal Airwave person that they could not gather this info via Airwave, was he wrong?

The email address of the guest becomes the user name in the output of the "show user" command. That table is on Airwave and can be reported against. Those reports can be run automatically and emailed out or retained on the server.
