I recently purchased a Dell Venue 8 Pro when they were running early bird sales at the Microsoft Store ($199). You can get them right now for around $239 if you hunt! This little guy packs a punch and is fantastic for running your wireless troubleshooting and survey utilities like Chanalyzer (Wi-Spy DBx), inSSIDer, Wireshark (with AirPCAP Nx), AirMagnet Survey, etc.

Using a USB OTG adapter (converts micro-USB to full size female), you can plug in all of your favorite adapters and use velcro to attach it to the back of the tablet.

The tablet is very, very light and very thin. Definitely the most comfortable 8" tablet that I have used. The rubber back makes it very easy to hold when working in the field. It runs full Windows so all of your existing devices and software will run without an issue.

    Some specs:

    • 2GB RAM
    • About 9 hours of battery (confirmed)
    • Quad Core Processor
    • 1280x800 screen
    • Dual-band 2x2 11n wireless (can use an 11ac USB)

    Tim,

What is the internal wireless adapter that this thing uses?

    Thanks

It is a Dell Wireless 1538 which uses a Qualcomm Atheros AR6004 chipset.

Nice! Not to laggy? If not that is perfect.

AirMagnet is a little bit laggy, but lighter stuff like Chanalyzer, inSSIDer, Wireshark, Omnipeek etc all work great. I also use this as my personal consumption device and I'm always impressed by the performance.
