When I look for the newest FW of the Product numbers J9850A and J9851A, I'm forwarded to these pages on HPE.com:

    https://h10145.www1.hpe.com/downloads/SoftwareReleases.aspx?ProductNumber=J9850A&lang=&cc=&prodSeriesId=

    https://h10145.www1.hpe.com/downloads/SoftwareReleases.aspx?ProductNumber=J9851A&lang=&cc=&prodSeriesId=

Accordingly for both switches the newest fw is KB.16.11.0004
    release notes: https://www.arubanetworks.com/techdocs/AOS-Switch/RN/16.11/AOS-S%20Switch%2016.11.0004%20Release%20Notes.pdf

Now comes the question: When I open the realese notes pdf neither J9850A J9851A is listed under "Products Supported". (Table 2, page 6)
So how can I be sure this FW is the correct one and will work? If this is not the correct FW, where else would I find what I'm looking for?

    Hi Fabian
    Look here: https://asp.arubanetworks.com/
For  J9850A I found KB.16.11.0004 also. But I could not find this number under the supported devices either.
To be on the safe side, you may wish to reach out to your Aruba Sales or to the TAC

Sorry about the confusion on this. J9850A is not an orderable part/product. It actually represents the chassis. When you ordered this switch it would have had a bundle product number (SKU) such as J9821A, JL002A, JL095A or maybe JL003A (there may be others). If you find that ordered SKU you should see that in the should show in the product number column of the release notes.

It is most likely that you are fine to install 16.11.0004 on this switch. For future reference it might be easier to find that product number so you can verify.

Hopefully that helps a little bit.
