    Hello!

     

    On ArubaOS-Switch, there is the command "show name" that will get you a list of all of the ports connected like a switch including their descriptions:

     

    SW1903# show name

    However, I cannot find anything similar to this very useful feature on ArubaOS-CX.

     

    The best I've been able to do is this:

     

    SW1902(config)# alias shn show interface | begin 2 "Interface 1/1/" | exclude "Admin state" | exclude "State information"

    It would be better if ArubaOS-CX contained a proper "show name" or "show interface description" command rather than having to hack together something like this (which still isn't as compact as I'd like...)

    yeah...and please development don't forget: add/convert new/existing commands with/to tabular formats for their outputs <-- tabulated data are easier to read...but sadly this is not going to happen because somebody will reply: "Mate...CLI is dead, that's it, start using API and learn Python to gather and present data with the structure you like more".

    Thanks for the reply but that's not the right command I was looking for. I would like just the interface names in a single command like 'show name' on legacy ArubaOS and 'show int description' on Cisco. This is a very fundamental command for basic troubleshooting. I sounded like this was in the pipeline but no response from Aruba yet.

    Have you tried using:

    show interface physical

    Hi,

    Sorry to dig out an old post, but since I've just only now put my hand on a CX 6000, I may have a sort of equivalent result for ArubaOS CX :

    CX6000(config)# int 1/1/1
    CX6000(config-if)# description Management
    CX6000(config-if)# exit
    CX6000(config)# sh int brief

    Then the name will appear to the far right of the list, under description tab.
    I know it's not the exact same "name only" of ArubaOS, but I hope this will help.

    I'm not sure on AOS-CX, on AOS you cloud try "sh interfaces custom 1-10 port:4 name:20"

    %10000 agreed. "sh name" was my favorite CLI command , and I am very disappointed with CX switches that They don't have a simple "show description" to list all the ports with their descriptions with port numbers! I have to do "sh int brief and having hard time to read the ports and the descriptions plus other info that i dont need.
