    Greetings!

     

    Voice over IP (VoIP) support is a key part of the ArubaOS-Switch platform, and we're constantly developing ways to make deploying IP phones simpler and more reliable.

     

    To that end, we've developed a brief white paper that points out some of our VoIP-focused features, with CLI examples.  Take a look, and let us know what you think!

    Hi,

     

    This whitepaper is almost perfect, It does leave out one step.

     

    #device-profile device-type {device type name} enable

     

    Nothing will happen untill the above enable is applied. Everything working great otherwise

    While I have your attention,  I do have an issue,  maybe you can help me with.  The cisco phones I just received seem to be sending out the following lldp oui - Pulled it off a frame from wireshark

     

    lldp oui 00120f sub-type 1

     

    This problem I am now facing,  this lldp oui also seems to be received from the cisco switch that is uplinking the aruba.  So,  the device-profile ends up being appied to my trunk uplink port.  As you would think,  causes far greater problems.  For the minute I am working around it by setting lldp to tx-only on the uplink port.  Is there better way to do this?  I have a couple switch jumps and it would be nice to have lldp on both ends of the uplink.

    I don't think there is a good solution for this use case.

    Are you using authentication? In that case you good assign the voice VLAN using a user-role or tagged VLAN in the RADIUS accept.
    Other 'solution' is not to use device profiles.

    Would be nice if we can apply the device profile based on the advertised capabilities in the LLDP data.

    This is curious. I'm not familiar with the specific LLDP OUI I'm seeing; is it coming directly from the phone, or possibly from a device connected behind it?

     

    I would recommend opening a TAC case to engage support resources; in parallel, if you could send the switch running configuration and packet captures from the phone and uplink ports showing the offending LLDP packets to me via PM, that would help with the investigation.

    I want to ask page3

    switch(config)# device-profile name "Phone-Profile"
    switch(device-profile)# tagged-vlan 100

    switch(device-profile)# untagged-vlan 110
    switch(device-profile)# allow-jumbo frames

     

    QUESTIONS:

    1. tagged-vlan 100

    is that mean, if I connect my phone to trunk port, it will get vlan 100?

    if yes. That will never happen because I will never my phone to the trunk port

    trunk port always used to connect between switches

     

    2. since the phone will be connected to any empty port and the profile above has allow-jumbo frames

    let say port 10 vlan 10 without jumbo.

    now I connect my phone to port 10.

    it will get vlan 110+jumbo automatically?

    Yes that is correct , this will bypass the port configuration with the device profile config

    Not sure this tread is still active or followed, but I have the following request.  I have an Aruba S2500 running version 7.4.1.12 (latest version for the 2500 that I can fine)  I am having a real problem getting everything to work for a voip setup.  

    Basically I need

    vlan 100 to be the voice/viop vlan.
    I want it to automatically detect a compatible voip phone and assign it to the voice vlan.

    I hate to ask but could someone detail that out for me.

    ArubaOS Switch (topic for this post) is something different than the S2500 Mobility Access Switch. Please post in this group a new thread with a proper subject, like: Voice VLAN on S2500 Mobility Access Switch.

    I don't know if this post is still active but I've a  question about the paper.

    I'm trying to follow the steps with a 5412R Zl2 running 16.11.

     if I were to associate more than on "kind" of phone to the "Phone-Profile", can I do it repeating the following command for each type of "device-Type" ?

    switch(config)# device-profile device-type "VoIP-Phone"
    switch(device-VoIP-Phone)# associate "Phone-Profile"
    switch(device-VoIP-Phone)# enable
    switch(device-VoIP-Phone)# exit
