Anyone have any solutions for CX console access? USB-C isn't ideal for customers like myself that have a large OOBM system that only uses RJ45 rollover cables. I've seen there are RJ45 to USB-C cables but I purchased one and it didn't seem to work so trying to find a solution here other than rip and replace all our console devices.

The USBport can be used with USB-A to Serial console adaptors with cables that have  FT231X and PL3202 chipsets as  long as you have 10.05 software or later

Not sure how this really helps with RJ45 console server connection to the switch as I still have the same issue using USB on the CX switch end. Would either of these work? I think the one I have is the USB-C one but I could never get it to work with my console server that uses rollover cables.

digitaltab your FTD cables should work from Aruba CX to console server. You may or may not need a roll over depending on console server brand./implementation

Using a rasp pi console server I needed a rollover, with a COMWARE server I didn't using the same cable.

Note you will need 10.05 software as minimum on CX

some of my colleges have had it working on following console servers too

    Digi PortServer TS16
    Digi Connect IT 16
    Lantronix SLC 8000
    Raritan Dominion SX2
    Avocent ACS6000
    Avocent ACS8000

Behavior may depend on the version of firmware running on above

My switches are running 10.06 for the moment so shouldn't be the issue, as for roll over vs non-roll over cables there isn't much I can do about that if it's built into the RJ45 to USB so don't think that'll help here. Also the list of console servers won't help, this just seems like a bad idea to go full USB without some sorta easy RJ45 option as alot of console servers prior used that. Basically asking customers to completely swap out their large OOB console networks.

Has anyone had luck connecting to an Opengear console server?

I have a FTDI USB-A to RJ45 cable but can't get it to connect.

edit: once I put a rolled adapter on, I was able to get the console to work.

    Hi ktakodra

    i'm using DigiConnet IT 4.

Since you/your colleagues got it working with DigiConnect IT 16, i'd humble like to ask for a screenshot of your settings, so that i can try with my one too.

    Thank You

Just wanted to update this thread with another known working config and known working USB-A cables.

I've been testing this with a customer in the USA.

    Terminal Server:   Lantronix SLC 8024
    Terminal Server sw/fw version: 7.4.0.0R13
Cables tested as working: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BK6P67K/ AND https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075V1RGQK
    No rollover adapter used.

Please note that to get this to work with terminal servers, you need to use the USB-A port which does not have an internal RS-232 chip.  When connecting to a terminal server, one end of the connection is supported by an RS-232 chip inside the cable and the other end is supported by a RS-232 chip inside the terminal server.   The USB-C port on the CX switches already has an internal RS-232 chip attached to it for console purposes.   Any USB C or A to RJ45 serial cable will have an onboard RS-232 chip.  If you attach such a cable to the USB-C port on the CX switch which has an internal RS-232 chip, it simply will not work because the cable ALSO has an RS-232 chip.   I am not aware of any USB-C to RJ45 serial adapter cable which does not have an RS-232 chip on the cable.    The reason there is an internal RS-232 chip on the USB-C console port on the CX switch is so any simple USB-C to USB-A cable can provide serial console access from a modern Mac, Linux, or Windows based PC without requiring special cables or drivers.

@ktakodra or @Yash can PLM please confirm the updated version of the chipsets in this thread are officially supported?   The cables I tested both have the FTDI FT232R chipset.   What is stated in the thread is FT231X and PL3202.   I haven't found any PL cables to work in my testing.

Two additional cables tested as working at the same US customer:  https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06WGR8TBG and https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082VZTB57

The 2nd one appears to be shielded at the RJ45 end, which may be desirable for some customers.

Did you ever get this to work with your air console?
