    Hi all,

We've got several different Aruba switches that need their firmware to be upgraded. However, I'm not sure of the best approach to accomplish this task.

These are the type of the switches and and their current firmware :

    - Aruba 3810M stack of 3, current firmware 16.05.0007

    - Aruba 2930M  stack of 3, current firmware 16.04.0008

-several standalone Aruba 2530M ,  current firmware 16.10.0002

Is the software version KB.16.11.0004 the recommended and stable one by Aruba? if Yes, can I just upgrade the current firmware (16.05 & 16.04) directly to 16.11.0004?

With regard upgrading the stack, do I need to upload the new firmware (16.11.0004) to all the stack members or just to the commander then issue boot system ?

    Thanks

    Hello,

you can find and download the software for your Aruba switches from the Aruba Support Portal (ASP).
Here is a link for the 3810M's available versions:

    https://asp.arubanetworks.com/downloads;search=3810M;sort=VERSION_DESC;fileTypes=SOFTWARE;products=Aruba%20Switches;fileContents=Software

Once you have downloaded the software the easiest way to do the upgrade is via the Web GUI.
You can upload the software to the device and reboot the switch at a later time not to disrupt the network users. (until this reboot the switch will be still using the old version) The whole downtime will be just the time necessary for the switch to reboot.

If you have disabled the Web GUI for security requirements or other reasons you can do the update via CLI using TFTP, the USB port or XMODEM.

The procedure via CLI is described here:
    https://techhub.hpe.com/eginfolib/networking/docs/switches/WB/15-18/5998-8162_wb_2920_mcg/content/ch09s03.html

To update a stack the procedure is the same, you connect to the commander and proceed like it's a standalone device. The other members will get their software from the commander.

Thanks so much Toni for your reply.

Same with Aruba 2530M ,  current firmware 16.10.0002, can I upgrade it directly to 16.11.0004?
Do you know any reference of the upgrade path please ?

    Thanks

    Hello,

all software versions which are publicly available are stable and it's recommended to regularly upgrade your devices and not to stay on an old version.
When a new version is released you can find the list of fixed bugs in the quickspecs and if there are known issues with the software they will also be listed in the document.
For questions regarding upgrade paths you can again check the release notes of the respective version. If there is not an explicit upgrade path listed there then you can update directly. (in most cases no specific upgrade path is necessary)
Here is the Quickspecs document for 16.11.0004:
    https://www.arubanetworks.com/techdocs/AOS-Switch/RN/16.11/AOS-S%20Switch%2016.11.0004%20Release%20Notes.pdf

Just pay attention to the letters in front of the version number.
You need YA/YB.16.11.0004 for the 2530 switches,
    KB.16.11.0004 for 3810M switches
and WC.16.11.0004 for the 2930M switches

After you select a version on the portal you can see the applicable devices for it and find your device in the "Product SKUs" list:
