    Hi
Yesterday I had a problem that 40GB+ SR BiDi could not link between an Aruba CX8235 and Fortigate 1100F.

    Aruba transceiver: JL308A - Aruba 40G QSFP+ LC BiDi 150m MMF XCVR
Fortigate Transceiver: Customized FS QSFP+ 40GBASE-SR BiDi 300m DOM Duplex LC MMF Optical Optical Transceiver

    1. When we install an Aruba JL308A QSFP in both the switch and the firewall, the connection works.
    2. When we install a Fortinet (FS) QSFP in both the switch and the firewall, the connection works.
    3. When we put an Aruba QSFP in the switch and a Fortinet (FS) QSFP in the firewall, the link remains down.

It seems that both QSFP BiDi transceivers do not understand each other.
Logging Fortigate with F5 tranceiver installed:
    Interface port33 - QSFP+/QSFP28 (4 x 10.3G)
      Vendor Name : FORTINET
      Part No. : FN-TRAN-QSFP+SR
      Serial No. : C24xxxxxxxxx
Logging Fortigate with JL308A tranceiver installed:
    Interface port33 - QSFP/QSFP+ (4 x 20.6G)
      Vendor Name : AVAGO
      Part No. : AFBR-79EBMZ-HP3
      Serial No. : MYxxxxxxxx
Strangely the F5 BiDi transceiver shows 4x10.3G in the description and the Aruba JL308A shows 4x20.6G. I don't know if this is the problem.
Logging JL308A in de Aruba CX8325:
See also attachment with diag log.
We allready opened a TAC and Fortinet case but no answer so far.
Does anyone have an idea what the cause could be? Or is this just a wrongly burned F5 transceiver?

    Hi Marcel,

    You rightly guessed it.

To the best of my understanding, the issue is actually about the number of lanes being used by each of these modules. Aruba module uses 2 lanes of 20G bidi whereas FS used 4 lanes of 10G bidi. Due to this mismatch, you are not able to get the active link.

You can find same details on lanes in 40G chapter of HPE Aruba transceiver guide. link: https://networkingsupport.hpe.com/downloads;search=transceiver guide

    Thanks,

    Anany
