Hi - is there a knowledge base article or bulletin which gives the appropriate upgrade path/sequence for 5400 series switches running 16.02.0009 to get to the most recent version? I can't seem to find it in the release notes.

    Thanks.

Hi! if your Aruba 5400R zl2 Switch is currently running KB.16.02.0009 then you can go straight to latest KB.16.02 (KB.16.02.0028 build), latest KB.16.08 (KB.16.08.0018 build), latest KB.16.09 (KB.16.09.0014 build) or latest KB.16.10 (KB.16.10.0011 build)...all builds available as of today...the 16.02 was a sort of watershed...so the requirement of doing a stepped update (passing through some interim builds) if your switch is already running on 16.02 faded away with this particular release. If your Aruba 5400R zl2 was running an older one probably things would have been just a little bit less "one shot style" in terms of update path.

Given that, I suggest you to update directly to KB.16.10.0011 from KB.16.02.0009 following Release Notes recommendations and software update best practices described on the "Best practices for software updates" section of the Aruba 5400R zl2 Basic Operation Guide.

Pay attention that the standard update procedure is valid for an Aruba 5400R zl2 with just one MM (no Management Modules redundancy), in case you have an Aruba 5400R zl2 deployed with two MMs and a particular redundancy mode is enabled (Warm-Standby mode or NonStop Switching mode) the update procedure is a little bit trickier (not too complex) because it should involve both MMs.

    Thank you Jon.

Forgot to add some references: Release Notes (there is a tiny paragraph called "Upgrade information" normally at the end of the Fixes chapter) but there you will find more about downgrade restrictions and BootROM related warnings. There isn't an updated (or...I don't recall of having seen it) Technical Bulletin explaining what to do if you're on a older build (say KB.x.y.nnnn) and you want to update to a newer build (say KB.h.k.mmmm) as per your case...the near useful thing I recall I've found is having a look at the old and still valid HPE download link for the particular destination build version and read the Note if any (see an example of what I mean here)...that tiny note is generally absent on Release Notes and, for sure, it is also absent on latest 16.10 download links (have a look here).

    Hello,

Just wondering if same procedure will apply for upgrade from 16.05.0007 to 16.11.0010 on a 5412R zl2.

    Thanks,

    Efrain Matos

Hi! basically yes. Have a look on Release Notes of latest 16.11 to understand (a) if there are particular restrictions and (b) if there will be an update of the BootROM version too with the 16.05 -> 16.11 step (so to be prepared for an automatic dual reboot).
