    Hi all

I have an issue on ArubaOS 8.10.0.6 LSR_86193 that the access points are not balancing across the our two controllers.

Our two controlers are configured on the same layer 2 network.

My normal go to for troubleshooting is:

    #show lc-cluster vlan-probe status

    Cluster VLAN Probe Status
    -------------------------
    Type IPv4 Address    REQ-SENT REQ-FAIL ACK-SENT ACK-FAIL REQ-RCVD ACK-RCVD VLAN_FAIL CONN-TYPE START/STOP
    ---- --------------- -------- -------- -------- -------- -------- -------- --------- --------- ----------
    peer   10.10.10.31         3        0        4        0        4        3         0   L2 Conn     3/   3

Normally there is a vlan_fail count.  In this case everything looks good.

    Redundancy:Yes

    Active Client Rebalance Threshold:20%

    Standby Client Rebalance Threshold:40%

    Unbalance Threshold:5%

    Active AP Load Balancing:YES

    Active AP Rebalance Threshold:20%

    Active AP Unbalanced Threshold:5%

    Active AP Rebalance Count:50

    Active AP Rebalance Timer:5 mins

    show lc-cluster load distribution ap

    Cluster Load Distribution for APs
    ---------------------------------
Type IPv4 Address    Active APs     Standby APs
    ---- --------------- -------------- ---------------
    peer   10.10.10.31            102               0
    self     10.10.10.33            0             102
Total: Active APs 102 Standby APs 102

How long has this system been running?

What controller model do you have?

Check which controller is the leader in the cluster. Did you do a cluster upgrade or a manual upgrade? Did you manually move the AP's to the controller that is not the leader of the cluster?

Maybe stupid question, but do you have a Mobility Conductor (MM) in place for these controllers?

That is a requirement for load balancing as far as I know.

There would not be any output to that command if an MM was not in place.

It's like Herman state, you must have Conductors,

but also equal amount off licensing, otherwise it will not balance (eg. 50/50)

What is "equal" in a system that has an MM?  The licensing is shared and each access point gets a license.  If there was not enough licensing, access points would not come up.

This user should let the controllers sit for awhile and allow it to balance.  Balancing can be gradual and is based on the capacity of the controllers.  It can be made more aggressive in the cluster config, but the most prudent thing is to wait.

If you have one controller out of the box, you have 500 licenses,

and one with a silver/[gold] license off 1000/[2000], it balance 500/1000[2000].

(You do the maths for your environment)

    Understood.

We should let the op respond to see if that is their setup.

    Hi

we have 2 controllers and a pair of mobility masters.

I am told that until the controller is 80% full (so I guess over 400 access points) it won't move any access points to the other.

im sure that is different to how it was behaving in 8.6 - but I'm probably not remembering things right.

That not the case, it will load balance any number you have.

You may want to check your cluster setting

    managed network>cluster>cluster-profile>Advanced

    eg. This works fine, 50/50

Is that clients of access points?

the balancing comment is what I got back from a support call today.

it will balance both ap's and clients, at same ratio
