Adequate replacement for 7205 Controller?

    Posted 14 days ago

Last friday a mail arrived that i was honestly expecting for quite a while.

The 7205 Controller goes end of sale in November...

The mail lists the 9114 Controller as a replacement, but in our case that does not work: We are still on non-Central AOS 8, and do not yet have plans or desire to move to Central with our wireless.

So what is an adequate replacement of the 7205?

The small 9004 and 9012 Controllers only have gigabit ports. The 9240 is a lot more expensive even without performance licenses. The 91xx seem to be Central only.

Will there still be new hardware usable in a Conductor/Controller Cluster, or is it essentially dead now, considering that the 7xx Access Points are also Central only?

Depending on the size of the Installation you have the following options:
9004 with up to 32 APs on a single Box

9012 with up to 64 APs on a single Box (starting with AOS 8.12.x, all other Versions before do support up to 32 APs)

9240 with up to 512 (Base) / 1024 (Silver) and 2048 (Gold) APs; for Silver / Gold you need to purchase the dedicated Capacity License

Virtual Controllers scalable with up to 6000 APs (in steps of 10, 50, 250, 1000) on Hyper-V, KVM or ESXi

With a Mobility Conductor you have the option to Cluster Controllers (4 x 90xx or vMCs / 12 x 9240) to get the designated Number of APs connected.
