Hi Olivier,
Are you managing IAP from Airwave with template or IGC? or are the IAP's in Monitor only mode?
There are few ways to achieve the upgrade. Yes, the cluster should be in 8.x before joining new IAP with 8.x code.
Better approach can be with new group in Airwave.
Set the new group version to desired 8.x version.
Make sure the template (if template config is done) is copied from old group to new group and make any modifications to make it as 8.x template. Then move the desired cluster to new group so that it gets upgraded to 8.x and have the config. Mismatches can be present which needs to be solved.
or If IGC is used, move the desired cluster to new group so that IGC imports the config from IAP on 6.x and then proceed with setting the f/w to 8.x on new group.

Subject: Airwave move IAP cluster to another group
Hello,
We are using a local Airwave server to manage 5 IAP clusters dispatched across 5 sites.
All these clusters are in the same Airwave group (default group) and used firmware version 6.5.x.x
We plan to increase IAP number in one of these cluster, but new IAP will be in 8.1.X.X version without possibility to downgrade. So if i correctly understood the cluster must be first in 8.1.X.X version before being able to add new IAP 8.1.X.X
I'm not sure at all of the way to increase a cluster firmware but i think we'll need first to move this cluster into a different group to be able to upgrade it.
If someone could point me to a documentation describing the process to move from default group to another group it would be very helpful.
Thanks in advance
Olivier
