We are running 70 Unify Access Points at our Site to connect around 400 clients (with few exceptions all devices are iPads or other apple devices).

The APs are connected to 10 Aruba 2530 Switches. We use the "Block LAN to WLAN Broadcast and Multicast" on our unifi controller, so that the mdns queries do not get send back to the clients. However, the Switches still flood the multicast back to all access point.

Now to prevent this the first suggestion would probably be to set up IGMP on the switches.. but this is still a bit confusing to me. When i think it through all iPads would join the same group, since they are all sending mc to 224.0.0.251 and so the packets would still be send back to the APs..but maybe i just understand it right.

Is it possible to just drop all traffic send to 224.0.0.251? UDP on Port 5353 would also be a possibility to single out the mdns traffic..

    thanks in advance
