Is there a way to get the Aruba 6300M console port or aux port to work with a USB to DB9 RS232 Adapter hub?
We currently have a USB to DB9 RS232 Adapter hub hooked up to a Cradlepoint CBA850 for our OOB management.
I'm having issues getting the Aruba 6300M working with this guy, but all of our DB9 to RJ-45 console connections are working just fine.

    Thanks,
    Andrew

    It should work like this : (ZPE - USB-A) ----- (USB-A - RS232 adapter) --- (RS232 - RJ45) ----- (RJ45 - Console Server)
    115200 baudrate

I was able to use a FTDI cable like, https://www.amazon.com/OIKWAN-Compatible-Opengear-Aruba%EF%BC%8CJuniper-Switches/dp/B075V1RGQK/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2VLM1UIR4S6V8, to connect a 6300m to one of our Raritan Console servers; it uses RJ45 connections.  I would think a cable like https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Chipset%EF%BC%8CDB9-Serial-Converter-Windows/dp/B0759HSLP1/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2Q9WY8B51JVNL would work since it too has a FTDI chip in it.

Make sure you are on a newer release of AOSCX, the older versions did not make the USB-A port functional.

    Hi,

currently i'm using 54xx and 2920/2930 but will exchange them against 6400/6300/6200 series next year.

right now we're using small 4 port serial (rj45) console servers (DIGI Connect IT 4) to connect to the switch's console remotely.

Do I understand your reply correct so far, that i could possibly use the usb-c consoles with an "usb A to C" adaptor and such cables? https://www.amazon.com/OIKWAN-Compatible-Opengear-Aruba%EF%BC%8CJuniper-Switches/dp/B075V1RGQK/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2VLM1UIR4S6V8

If you could confirm this, it would save me a lot of trouble..

    Marcus,

The best option is to purchase one of them and test it out.  I tested 3 different cables and one of them would not work as hoped.

    Hi Marcus,

I have tested few different USB-A <-> RJ45 cables and so far this has been the only one that has worked: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B08NWPY8DQ/ref=pe_27091401_487024491_TE_item?th=1

I have also ordered Aruba cables, but have not yet received them.

I haven't actually tried any console server, but usual you use a USB data cables to connect to the CX switches and your operatiing system discovers the serial port that is actually inside the switch. You don't need a serial PC on the PC or any other RS-232 connection, afaik.

The RJ45 port would probably require RS-232 / Serial Port.

Did you set the speed correctly ?

    @C0LdWir3

using a computer with USB is no issue here...

simply imagine in a remote location you have a 4 device 6300M stack and there is some issue and you can't access the OOBM....no techician onsite too....what do you do then?

With a console server you have the chance remotely access the console port of the switch and all it's units (if you connect all 4) ...there you can see and react....no matter if the switch's OS is loaded or the stack is working...you can simply fix it remote....

That's why i do not understand why aruba did move away from industrial standard RJ45 console connection to ONLY!! use USB...if it would have been my choice then i would moved away from aruba devices and bought other vendor just because of this shortsight design....

I was able to use a cable like this one: https://www.amazon.com/OIKWAN-Compatible-Opengear-Aruba%EF%BC%8CJuniper-Switches/dp/B075V1RGQK/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2VLM1UIR4S6V8 with our Raritian RJ45 console server; this appears to be the same unit https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Console-Compatible-Opengear-Juniper-Switches/dp/B075V1RGQK/

.  None of the USB-C cables that I tested worked, only the USB-A -> RJ-45.

While it would have been easier to stay with the RJ-45 consoles, the reality is that technology moves on and there is limited space on the front of the 6300m's.
