is there any documentation to show that the built in backup and restore is the only supported method?
is there any documentation for the built in backup and restore?
Why would backups be offered in Azure? Why would they stop working?

That's what I thought you meant but needed to make sure.
The only fully supported backup and restore option for ClearPass is the built-in backup and restore functionality. No VM backup or snapshot or whatever is supported.

Azure backups: ClearPass is deployed as VM's in Azure. You can backup these VM's in Azure like any other VM.
Azure ClearPass backups: Usually an agent would be present on the Azure VM. An extension would then be deployed to the agent to make the backup work. ClearPass VM's do not support extensions, so I am curious to know how this works. We would usually restart/remove/install the agent if we had issues with the backup. We cannot get access to the OS in ClearPass outside of the few select commands that are presented to see what is happening. e.g. is the agent running/what version is it/view logs.

What do you mean by "Azure backups" or "Azure ClearPass backups"?

Hello,
Our Azure backups stopped working after upgrading ClearPass to 6.12.1
How do the Azure ClearPass backups work? Is it possible to see the backup agent/version/logs/process on the ClearPass servers etc.?
