High Channel Interference (5GHz) on AP-635

    Hello,

My organizations just upgraded to 8.10.0.6. Previously we were running 8.10.0.4 and noticed AP-535s reporting very high channel interference in the 5GHz spectrum. When analyzing the spectrum with live tools (Ekahau/NetScout), the spectrum would show very little channel utilization and no interferers. I got very close to the AP, as far as sticking the antenna right above where the AP was mounted to ensure there was no near field interference.

After reading some of the patch notes, I saw there was a known-issue of AP-515s reporting high channel interference and that the update to 8.10.0.6 should resolve that issue by making changes to the driver. Upon upgrading to 8.10.0.6, we immediately started seeing this issue on the AP-635s and it no longer presented itself on the 535s. Note: a reboot immediately resolve the "high channel interference" even if the AP selects the exact same channel upon reboot.

Is anybody else experiencing this issue? I have created a TAC case to report this issue.

    Thanks,

    Nate

    Hi Nate,

Did you get a resolution to this? I'm seeing the same issue on 8.10.0.11.

    Thanks,
    Eleanor

    Hello Eleanor,

We have not seen AP-635s stuck in that state since upgrading to 8.10.0.10. The number of AP-535s that this occurs on also seems to have reduced; however, we still have a bug case open with Aruba to resolve. The last update they provided was that there is pretty rare and difficult to replicate, making it take longer to fix.

If the CI is stuck at >95%, resulting in the AP not broadcasting it's beacons, if a reboot does not fix it, I would suggest going for a RMA or TAC case. We had several that had to be RMA'd, but for the most part, a reboot fixed them.

For the AP-635s, we do still see Airwave showing erratic channel interference (CI) behavior, large, quick bursts of CI (versus the reported issue in the post, high, consistent CI). This appears to correlate strongly with radio resets, the more erratic the behavior, the more radio resets. While this worried me at first, I found most of these radio resets occur overnight, while nobody is connected to the AP. Additionally, speaking to clients on APs with the most radio resets, none of the have reported any issues and are all happy with the Wireless performance.

For that reason, we decided not to pursue the issue further. While it's odd behavior, it does not actually seem to cause clients any issues.

    Thanks,

    Nate
