I have dealt with 205 and 305 and normally I configure a master AP and set a virtual controller. After than subsequent APs that are plugged into the network are automatically joined to the cluster and broadcast the same SSIDS as the master. Today I can see the 305 get an IP address. I get a refused connection if I try to access the GUI. The APs light flashed to confirm it was being factor reset so firmware shouldn't even matter. What could stop that AP from joining the cluster and is there any way to access its GUI? The only thing I can think of is using the IP address and making sure I'm adding port 4343.

Turn that access point to the back and make sure it is an IAP-305 and not an AP-305.  An AP-305 looks the same, but requires a hardware controller.

They are both IAP-305-US. Both are JX946A.

It could have been converted to an controller-based access point.  Is it new, or used?  You would need a console cable to reset it back to an IAP.

I think you are correct. I bought several of these devices. I found that many of them connected fine. I'm up to 4 APs in my cluster. I will use the console cable to reset the others to IAP. Won't I need a password to enter the commands?

nope.  Follow the instructions.  It does not require a password.

I didn't realize the serial cable is a proprietary one. Is that process the only way to set an AP  back to IAP?

You would need a controller running ArubaOS 8.6 and above to do it:  https://community.arubanetworks.com/community-home/digestviewer/viewthread?MID=32849

I'm glad you mentioned that. I do not have a controller.
