New Wireless Setup - AP515 and AP514

    Hello everyone,
    I am not sure if anyone has run into this before. Our issue with our new Aruba Wireless Setup is that our through put speeds are slow.
    We have good signal strength, but slow speeds. I contacted Aruba support and they said my speeds are good (150mbps)
    We cannot get past 173mbps on any of the new APs. I checked another post that talked about LLDP and i have verified in all switches and it is enabled.
    Our radio power is at 21dbe and firmware running on 8.7.1.6_81786.
    We have a total of 5 SSIDs setup in Aruba Central, does not make a difference which SSID i connect, i still get same speeds.
    On legacy devices, such as Zebra VH10 Mobile Computers, our data rate speeds is about 50mbps causing frustration on users.

    Is there something i should be looking in Aruba Central's setting to increase my network speeds on my APs?

    The more SSIDs you add, the more your performance will decrease.  Try to reduce the number of SSIDs so see if your performance improves.

    Hi
    Thank you for replying. 

    I have now 4 SSIDs.
    3 of the 4 were setup originally by the company who setup the VC and all the APs. Those 3 SSIDs i can only seem to get 173mbps data transfer rate.
    I then created a new SSID with identical settings to the other 3 and getting 286mbps speeds. I know there is a misconfiguration somewhere, just need to know where exactly.

    Can you install https://www.tethabyte.com/download and send a txt export of the results. When see your SSID rightclick to export as txt.

    Please note that 173Mbps is the max. modulation when using 20MHz width channels by two spatial streams.

    Hi Abiel,

    At your 2,4GHz channel:
    • Good signal
    • 20Mhz is ok
    • Max MCS Rate: 144.4 Mbps / 50% = max speedtest real troughput around 72Mbps
    • Put basic rate at minimum 11Mbps to optimize roaming and avoid very old clients
    • Amendments, enable 802.11k 802.11.v 802.11r
    • Channel Utilization 39% quite high with no active stations measured, keep it at max. 50%, check for interference.
    • Put tx power at 6dBm to 9 dBm for office deployments
    • Distance between AP max. 10-15meter
    At your 5Ghz channel:
    • Good signal
    • 20Mhz is ok but lower datarate then 40Mhz, if co-channel interfernce is low go for max. 40Mhz at 5Ghz for higer troughput
    • Max Modulation MCS Rate: 346.8 Mbps / 50% = max speedtest real troughput around 173Mbps
    • Put basic rate at minimum 12 or 24 Mbps to optimize roaming
    • Amendments, enable 802.11k 802.11.v 802.11r
    • Channel Utiluzation 7% looks fine to me, keep it at max. 50%
    • Put tx power at 9dBm to 15 dBm for office deployments
    • Distance between AP max. 10-15meter
    Because client-driver see the ssid "RWC-CORP" at 2.4GHz and 5GHz the driver have to make a choice and can pick the wrong radio. Beter to disable 2,4GHz and if you can't seperate eachother to ssid "RWC-Corp-2.4" and "RWC-Corp-5" can be some options to decide. 

    Check you legacy Zebra VH10 Mobile Computers if they support 5GHz and what are the device capabilities. Most likely they only support only 2,4Ghz or not all channels at 5GHz. On what radio are they connected? Based on above finding at 2,4Ghz it wil not go faster than around 72Mbps at 2,4Ghz.

    Note that my recommendation are based on basic office deployment, warehouse can have some different values what best can be designed by your wireless lan survey engineer.

    Hi Abiel,

    Did you check the MSC index to see what your max. modulation rate should be?

    Please note that your reall throughput is rougly 50-60% of the modulation rate dua overhead, interfernece and re-transmissions.

    Check your RF settings on channelbandwidth and understand the spatial streams of your AP and client.

    Max. 4 SSIDs is a design recommendation to avoid to many management beacons in the the air that occupied airtime. 5 SSID shouldn't be a big issue many times but keep your SSID count low as possible. Mostly 5 SSID isn't necessary in modern designs.

    Also your at 21dBm tx-power which is 125mW and thats very high. Please lower your tx-power to around 15-17dBM which is 32mW-50mW to avoid interference between APs and get the mobile clients and APs at the same receive and transmit power.

    When your not familiar with WiFi design please contact your local Aruba Partner to assist you for best results.
