With some experimenting I was able to solve the problem:
I installed an old version of ArubaOS (6.4.4.25) - I downgraded. (I think it doesn't really matter which 6x version gets installed.)
With that I was able to restart the system (still with errors regarding Ancillary files.) but I was able to configure the controller an finally the web UI was accessible again.
Using the the web UI I then updated to AOS 8.x . After restarting the system everything was working as expected again.
Maybe this helps in case you think you've bricked your MC 70xx...

Subject: Problem with reinstall of ArubsOS on Mobility Gateway 7030 after "format"
Hello everybody,
I was working on a backup controller to update it to ArubaOS 8.8.0.0 and accidentially did a full format on the device (without specifiying the partitions).
I managed to reinstall the OS doing an "upgrade TFTP".
But still the device won't start completely.
It cokmplains about files or directories missing:
[15:11:41]:Installing ancillary FS [ FAIL : Ancillary files are not present]
Extracting Webui files..cd: 269: can't cd to /flash/img0/mswitch/
tar: webui.tgz: No such file or directory
/tmp
chown: /mswitch/webui/*: No such file or directory
chmod: /mswitch/webui/wms/wms.cgi: No such file or directory
[15:11:43]:Reboot Cause: Power Cycle (Intent:cause:register ee:ee:0:8000)
[15:11:43]:Starting syslog service [ OK ]
chmod: /mswitch/webui/wms/wms.cgi: No such file or directory
cp: /mswitch/webui/wmsi/gc_email_template.xml: No such file or directory
cp: /mswitch/webui/wmsi/gc_page_design.xml: No such file or directory
cp: /mswitch/webui/wmsi/gc_field_attrs.xml: No such file or directory
chmod: /flash/upload/guestconnect/*: No such file or directory
and then ends with a
"mkdir: "
Can somone please help me to get that fixed? The post regardings "Ancillary files" and upgrading OS didn't help.
"boot_update cp_boot" doesn_t work. Error: "image type mismatch"
Thank you
Thomas
