We have had Airgroup enabled for about a year now. We have device registration set up for all University users to add their devices such as: Chromecast, apple TV's, smart devices, Roku, fire sticks, gaming devices, wireless printers and the list goes on. They can share them with whoever they choose. This has been going well.
Recently we have been getting reports from Android users only that when they are in their Google Home App they can see other devices and actually be able to control them. These devices that randomly show up are not shared with anyone but the registered user.
When we set up the device registration page at the start we changed the default page "if a user leaves the field blank" everyone can see this device, to where if they do check the share box and leave it blank it still only has that user to see the device. We have not changed this since the beginning of set-up.
We do have a TAC case opened for this issue. The only common denominator we have seen is when a user is setting up their google device there is a section that says: "Let others control your cast media" show a notification on all Android devices connected to your Wi-Fi and let them control media casting from (the device name you created).
This is what we got so far:
- Random popping up on Android devices - hard to capture packets
- Not all registered Google devices are seen
- Not all Android devices uses Google Home can see devices
- We have a Google device set-up in the same manner as the attached screen shot of a device that we have seen on the network and we can not replicate the issue
The photo below is from a Google device that we can see on the network and were able to get into this device.
