If a Remote AP (RAP) loses its local image, does it use TFTP to download latest image?  If I disable TFTP, will RAP still be able to upgrade when I do a controller code upgrade?

It should all happen over IPsec.  Generally speaking TFTP would not survive a nat connection.

Is it possible to disable TFTP?  Our security team is asking if we can disable it due to it being open to the public

You should only be allowing UDP 4500 on your firewall for remote APs.
