I want to be able to use a stand alone 505 WAP to broadcast a test SSID so I can determine the best spot to place a WAP to get coverage in the house. I'm a complete newbee so I don't even know how to get into the WAP to do any configurations. I have a POE switch to use to power it and my trusty Dell Laptop. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated and a good word will be put in for you with Santa!

    Thank you,
    Jim Greeley

The AP will start broadcasting a set me up SSID that you can use to get the initial configuration on it. Initial login will either be admin/admin or admin/SERIAL. From there you can add a WLAN and make it PSK (like a home router).

You can manage/config it from the wired side also if you know what IP it pulled.

So, if I am interpreting correctly, the device requires a DHCP server be available to provide it an IP address? Is that correct?
If I spin up a virtual machine on my laptop, configure a DHCP server, and connect only the laptop and the 505 WAP to a portable POE switch, I should be able to make it all function so I can gain access to set it up to stand alone... Yes / No?

Check this blog entry, it referes to the "old GUI View" but still correct - https://blog.theitrebel.com/2018/11/13/aruba-iap-site-survey/
