    Hello all,

I have 4 6300 switches and 2 joined VSF each. There area two different status of second member of vsf.  What is the different between VSF member and Standby status on show vsf, will the "membe status" switch become master/conductor if the conductor failed?

    Thanks and regards,

    Gibs

With VSF the members do not become a standby nor master/conductor switch.

Only a (assigned) stand-by VSF member will takeover the master/conductor role

VSF Behavior :  (from the AOS-CX VSF guide)

    - Each stack member must have a unique member number. When deploying a stack, ensure that each
member has a distinct number by renumbering the switches to the appropriate member numbers. Stack
formation will fail if there is a member number conflict.
    - The primary member will become Master and the secondary member will become Standby under normal
    circumstances.
    - The primary member is member number 1. This setting is not configurable and 1 is the default. A factorydefault switch boots up as a VSF-enabled switch with a member number of 1.
    - The secondary member number is user configurable, and there is no default secondary member. It is
recommended that the customer configures a secondary member in the stack, since a stack with a
    standby offers resiliency and high-availability.
    - No members other than primary and secondary members can become Master or Standby of the stack.

    Hi there,
    set: vsf secondary-member 2
    on your first VSF ring

and see if it changes to Standby

    Dear steinar,

would you mind to explain, what is the difference ?
We know that "secondary" state switch will become master/conductor if the master failed.

There are only two switches joined vsf, Conductor and Member.
For the "member" state switch on the ring, what happen if the conductor switch fail, would the member become the master switch and whether the member switch still be able to  take over the traffic?

    Thanks and regards

It should state, : Conductor and Standby, as in your second ring..

Then it is correct, somwhat unclear what happens if left as now:  Conductor & Member, and the conductor fails

    member
state is not the same as Standby or Conductor state.
If you ad more "members" to the ring's, they will be members.
