    Hi there,
Why no 5406R zl2 documents mention j9850A? I'm planning an upgrade, and not sure is it safe.

    Thanks.

    Hi Furkan,

The HP 5406R zl2 switch (J9821A) includes the base chassis J9850A, the HP 5400R zl2 Management Module (J9827A),
    and the HP 5406R zl2 Switch Fan Tray (J9831A). The bundles J9823A, J9824A, J9868A, JL002A, JL003A, and JL095A each
include the base chassis J9850A, the HP 5400R zl2 Management Module (J9827A), and the HP 5406R zl2 Switch Fan Tray
(J9831A) in addition to the switch modules mentioned previously.

The part number J9850A is not orderable.

Here you find the release notes with update instructions.

    Hope this help you.

Yep, I found the explanation about what is the SKU J9850A referenced into one old HPE thread with my own answer (read here: https://community.hpe.com/t5/aruba-provision-based/vsf-compatibility-problems/td-p/6874423#.Y5Dp1vDMI0M if you want, it points you to a FAQ document explaining the meaning of J9850A and J9851A), go figure.

As for your question, dealing with a 5400R zl2 chassis (running with minimum required options like PS, Fan and a MM) is enough to use any KB.nn.mm software Aruba published (with a reasonable reference to supported ones, say latest builds of KB.16.09, KB.16.10 or KB.16.11, as example).
