IAP-93 and IAP-103 Virtual Controller

Hello,

I recently upgraded our IAP-103's and IAP-93's to the latest version via the Virtual controller web portal. We have a total of 16 IAP's that worked fine before the upgrade, but now all of the 103's are showing up and operating fine but the 93's are not. I connected up the console cable to see if i see anything obvious (see attached images) but i cant see anything that shows errors. does anyone hae any suggestions? im kind of stuck in a hole here :/ All Ap's are on the same subnet it is a very simple setup.

Thanks,

Lief

I am not sure what AP's console you are showing me...  It looks like you have Version 4.1.1.2

What version are the IAP-103s on?

Re: IAP-93 and IAP-103 Virtual Controller

Hi, Those images are from one of the IAP-93's console port.

All of the AP's are running Aruba Instant 6.4.3.4-4.2.1.1

But after looking into the screenshots i sent it looks like the version is older on the 93 versus the 103. Do you think that could be the problem? If so could you provide me with the the Command Line to upgrade via the console port? I have a small tftp server running with the latest software on it. Also do you happen to know the default root password on the CLI?

Thanks for your help :)

Re: IAP-93 and IAP-103 Virtual Controller

The IAP-93s are not supported on the 4.2.x code.  The last version they are supported on is 4.1.1.x:

Please see the bottom of the "what's new" page here:  http://www.arubanetworks.com/techdocs/Instant_42_WebHelp/InstantWebHelp.htm?_ga=1.43038629.1615771646.1440445030#UG_files/Instant_overview/FeaturesInthisRelease.htm?Highlight=93

If you want your AP93s to continue working you should downgrade your cluster to 4.1.1.11

Re: IAP-93 and IAP-103 Virtual Controller

Hi,

If that was the case why would the software on the Aruba download site show the availbility of 4.2.1.1 Orion for AP-92, IAP-93, IAP-104, IAP-105, IAP-175, RAP-3WN and RAP-3WNP? See attached image as well.

Re: IAP-93 and IAP-103 Virtual Controller

That is an error.  There are other hardware that share the Orion image that do support 4.2.x.  The folder description was probably duplicated from others.  We will get this fixed.

Re: IAP-93 and IAP-103 Virtual Controller

Thanks for your reply,

How would i go about downgrading the 93's via the command line? i just downgraded the 103's to the 4.1 but im thinking that i need to downgrade the 93's indivually via the CLI because they are not joined to the VC. i have a TFTP server running on the network with the 4.1 software for the 93's.

Re: IAP-93 and IAP-103 Virtual Controller

Did you try to login to the GUI of one of the IAP93s?  If you cannot, plug a console cable and stop the boot (after a reboot) at the apboot> prompt:

You upgrade like this:

apboot> upgrade os 1 192.168.1.250:ArubaInstant_orion_6.2.1.0-x.x.x.x_xxxx

Where your TFTP server is 192.168.1.250

Re: IAP-93 and IAP-103 Virtual Controller

Or, you should downgrade the other IAPs to match the IAP-93s code, and you should regain control of the cluster
