Can I modify the speed/duplex settings in a Gigabit port on an M3?

Jun 30, 2014 08:44 PM

Product and Software: This article applies to Multi-Service Mobility Modules (M3) running ArubaOS 3.3.2.18 and later.

When the Gigabit Ethernet GE port of certain vendor's L3 switch is connected to the Gigabit Ethernet GE port of the Aruba M3 controller set to autoneg, the link between the L3 switch and controller does not come up.

To bring up the link, you must hardcode speed/duplex to 1000Mbps/Full on Aruba or the peer.

However, before ArubaOS 3.3.2.18, it was not possible to change the speed/duplex settings on the ports of an M3.

When you try to make changes to the speed/duplex settings on the GE port, it gives the following error:

(config) #interface gigabitethernet 0/1
(config-if)#speed 1000
Speed configuration not supported

(config-if)#duplex full
Duplex configuration not supported

This issue has been fixed in Aruba OS 3.3.2.18 and later builds.

(ArubaM3) (config) #interface gigabitethernet 0/8
(ArubaM3) (config-if)#speed 1000
(ArubaM3) (config-if)#shutdown
(ArubaM3) (config-if)#no shutdown
(ArubaM3) (config-if)#show interface gigabitethernet 0/8
