How do I determine the current operational role of a controller to see if it is master, standby, or local controller?

Product and Software: This article applies to all Aruba controllers and ArubaOS versions.

1) Issue the 'show switches' command to identify the role of the controller.

show switches

All Switches
------------
IP Address   Name      Location                   Type         Version    Status   Configuration  State Config    Sync Time (sec)
 --------------   ---- ----      ------------                    ----             -------        ------     -------------------  -----------------   ----------------------
10.88.0.8     control-2    Building1.floor1   standby      2.5.6.19    up         UPDATE          SUCCESSFUL        0

2) The Type field in the command output shows the controller role. In this output, the role is "standby". It can either be master, local, or standby.

Note: ArubaOS does not support clients on controllers when they are in "standby" mode.
