How many remote APs and campus APs can legacy controllers and new controllers support?

Jul 03, 2014 02:06 PM

Product and Software: This article applies to ArubaOS 2.5 and 3.x.

There is a major difference in the maximum number of campus access points (CAPs) and remote APs (RAPs) that the legacy platforms and newer platforms can support.

Newer Platforms

In newer platforms, each CAP is equal to four RAPs. One CAP consumes four RAP licenses.

If a 650/651 controller terminates 63 RAPs, this controller cannot terminate a CAP. To accommodate one CAP, you need to reduce the RAP count to 60.

Legacy Platforms

However, on the legacy platforms, the AP count is not handled in the same manner. One CAP is equal to one RAP.

The CAPs plus the RAPs equals the platform limit.
