What is the difference between welcome page & Redirect URL under captive portal profile on controller?

Welcome Page was designed mainly to give the admin the flexibility to display a brief welcome message before the user is redirected to his requested page or the redirect URL. Ideally this page should be a page in which the welcome message is displayed and the user will be redirected after the message. 

Redirect URL is used to redirect the user to a specific URL irrespective the url that he requested. Say if the user should always go to yahoo.com after authentication and the welcome page, then the redirect URL should be set as yahoo.com.
