How to prioritize lync traffic for wireless clients in Instant AP deployments?

Jun 27, 2014 04:21 PM

Environment : This article applies to Instant AP deployments.

As per International Telegraph Union Telecommunication (ITU-T) recommendation, there should be less than 150 millisecond (ms) one-way end-to-end delay for high-quality real-time traffic such as voice.

As a packet traverses the network from source to destination, congestion in the network can result in the packet getting dropped, delayed and/or corrupted, resulting in retries and lost packets. The packets may also arrive at the destination with varying delays (jitter) or out of sequence. All of these problems adversely affect the quality of real-time traffic like voice and video.

Therefore the below ACL rule applied to role of Lync clients, prioritizes the time sensitive voice, video and multimedia applications over the best-effort data traffic by providing greater bandwidth and less delay.

Follow below steps to modify the role inorder to prioritize lync traffic for wireless clients:

1. Login to Instant web interface.
2. Select the WLAN name and click "Edit"
3. Navigate to "Access" tab and select the role that is assigned to clients.
4. Click on "New"
