Q:

New knob which are added for broadcast filtering on Instant

Starting from 4.3 onwards, broadcast filter knob will have additional new knob “unicast-arp-only” .

When set to “Unicast-arp-only”, IAP allows all the broadcast and multicast frames as it is, except converts ARP requests to unicast and send frames directly to associated clients.

The existing broadcast filter knobs do not help address the use-case where customer wants applications using Broadcast/Multicast to work seamlessly, but still benefit from the containment capabilities provided by “Broadcast filtering” knob.

Since ARP is the major contributor to broadcast, the new knob converts this to unicast and lets other BC/MC traffic pass through fine ensuring all protocols work fine.
