Question   What keepalive or control traffic is sent between Instant AP and controller in IAP VPN setup?
Environment   This article applies to Aruba Instant Access Points.

 

Instant AP sends 56 bytes of ICMP packet to controller every 5 seconds to detect whether tunnel is up or down, this value is configurable between 1-3600 seconds

 

Below are the configuration screenshots from web interface (GUI) and Command Line (CLI):

 

Web Interface:

 

Login to Instant web interface and select "VPN from more options in main menu.

NOTE:  "Commit Apply" command needs to be executed to save the changes from command line.

Screenshot below includes the ICMP packets of 56 Bytes, which is sent as a control/keepalive mechanism to controller to check if the VPN tunnel is active.
