USB interfaces on the 220 and 110 series

What are the USB interfaces intended for on the new 220 and 110 series IAPs? The release notes for v4.0.0.0 state that external 3G/4G uplink modem support is only applicable to the RAPs, and other than that I am at a loss to understand their purpose. Thanks for any reply.

They are reserved for future uses.  Today, they are dormant.
