We use the Aruba controller's internal database to automatically generate the username and password for our guest credentials on a weekly basis. 
The problem with this approach is that sometimes, the automatically generated un and pw can sometimes be hard to read and numerical/alpha
characters can be sometimes hard to distinguish.  My question is:  Is there a way for me to maybe shorten the username and change the password to be
alpha, instead of alphanumeric?

With Clearpass, this is completely supported.  Was that your question?  With the controller...I believe it's not.
