AP License and PEF License

    Hi,

     

    Can someone please explain why do you need AP license and PEF License for an Access Point.

     

    Can you give a discription of the 2 licenses?

    AP license enables an AP to come up and broadcast an SSID when terminated on a controller. An AP on a controller without PEF will only support basic SSIDs and no custom role creation outside of the defaults.

     

    PEF license enables the advanced firewall capabilities on the VAPs and Roles created that can be applied to multiple SSIDs, allowing for custom roles to be created.

    Taking advantage of the equipment issue, when access point licenses are inserted into the controller are they lifetime or do they expire and the controller stops recognizing the access point?

    if the licenses are perpetual then it is for lifetime. (most of the purchased lics are perpetual)
    You also can get an eval lic that expire after a month or so.

    Are the license perpetual?  I got a quote for 4500 license but I need to renew them every 5 years?
