Im migrating 1 3000 controller which is standalone and Master to 4 new 7205 controller. 2 will be dedicated masters HA and 2 local HA. couple questions:

    1. I will setup all 4 7205 in a lab. Should I setup the Master first, then the standalone, then HA or? I will need to import the 3000 config at some point also. What order should all this be done?

    2. I need to migrate the licensies from the 3000 controller and setup in the new environment as shared licensing. Whats the best process for that? Install on the new masters? I noticed that when setting up the new 7205 its wants a license number before allowing to config it. How do I deal with that?

What is your target version of ArubaOS?

What kinds of APs do you need to support?

I will need to downgrade the controllers to 6.4.3 to accomidate AP 105s.

The AP-105 is supported by all active versions of code, so you should not need to downgrade.

Thats not what Aruba told me. Regardless, how about the first question I asked? What order should things be migrated?

What version of ArubaOS code are your 3200s on?

    1. Install 6.4.2 on your 7x00 controllers to match the exact version you have on the 3000.
    2. Make one of your 7200s the master-backup to your 3000, this will push the config of your 3000 to the 7200 master backup.
    3. Once established and the master redundancy process is complete, remove the 7200 master backup from the network, bring it up on your lab network and change the VRRP IP to a higher value so that it will remain the master when you switch over
    4. Bring up the second 7200 and make it the master backup to the first 7200
    5. Add the other 7200s as locals to your two masters
    6. Re-configure the AP groups and AP system profiles to point to the new VRRP IPs of your 7200 locals
    7. bring up an AP on the test lab netork to verify things are working as expected.
    8. Plan a cutover to replace the single 3000 with the four 7200
