Mac-Auth only network encryption?

    I am trying to stand up a new SSID with no password, but has Mac Authentication enabled.  I have the Mac part already, and a redirection for when the authentication fails.  I am trying to clear up something in the SSID profile.  If I leave the SSID profile 802.11 Security option at "None" and the Encryption at "Open", does this mean all traffic from the client to the controller would go as plain text?  Would the only way to resolve that be to change the 802.11 Security to WPA2-PSK and then add a password?
